Hosted at the Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi, The Community of Sant’Egidio and Ms. Shamsa Abubakar Fadhil, known in her community as ‘Mama Shamsa,’ co-recipients of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2023, were presented their award in a ceremony celebrating human fraternity on February 4, the International Day of Human Fraternity.
The Community of Sant’Egidio and Ms. Shamsa Abubakar Fadhil, known in her community as ‘Mama Shamsa,’ co-recipients of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity 2023, were presented their award in a ceremony celebrating human fraternity on February 4, the International Day of Human Fraternity. The honorees were selected by an independent judging committee composed of international experts in promoting peace and human rights. The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity recognized the two honorees for their contributions to building a more compassionate and nurturing world through advancing the values of human fraternity and setting an inspiring example of promoting peaceful coexistence.

The independent judging committee is appointed by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity. Each year, the judging committee is composed of a group of prominent figures in the area of peacebuilding and human coexistence.
