ABOUT THE EVENT

The 2021 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity held its annual award ceremony as a virtual event, convened from the Founder’s Memorial in Abu Dhabi. The location is significant as it is where the Head of the Catholic Church His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar His Eminence Ahmed Al-Tayeb came together on February 4, 2019, to sign the Document on Human Fraternity, a visionary joint declaration built upon friendship and mutual respect.

The 2021 ceremony was streamed on www.zayedaward.org on 4th February 2021, where a worldwide audience saw the honorees presented with the award by the first honorary co-recipients of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity: His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb.

2021 honorees

The honorees of the 2021 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity are: UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and Latifa Ibn Ziaten, Founder of IMAD Association and Activist Against Extremism

The Judging Committee

The independent judging committee is appointed by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity. Each year, the judging committee is composed of a group of prominent figures in the area of peacebuilding and human coexistence.
